Edie Adams (1927-2008) was an American actress and singer who had a successful career in both television and film. Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Adams began her career in the entertainment industry as a singer, appearing on the radio and in nightclubs. She later transitioned to acting and made her Broadway debut in the musical “Li’l Abner” in 1956.
Adams rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s, thanks to her appearances on the popular television shows of the era, such as “The Phil Silvers Show” and “The Ernie Kovacs Show.” She was also a regular on the game show “The Steve Allen Show.” In addition to her television work, Adams appeared in several films, including “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” and “The Apartment.”
Adams was also a talented singer, and she released several albums throughout her career, including “The Edie Adams Television Show” and “That’s All.”
Adams’ most memorable role was probably as the “Muriel Cigar girl” in the Muriel Cigar commercials of the 1960s, where she became a cultural icon.
Adams received numerous awards and honors during her career, including an Emmy for her performance on “The Ernie Kovacs Show.” She was also inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1999.
Adams died in 2008 at the age of 81, but her contributions to the entertainment industry continue to be remembered and celebrated.
